Having a Great Esthetician Can Change Your Life

I met Yudit from the Urban Body Clinic, Edmonton in 2006. I came to her to find out about laser hair removal as I had spent most of my adult life waxing and laser hair removal was fairly new at that time. The clinic was as warm and inviting as Yudit who took the time to demonstrate and answer all of my questions about the laser. She also proceeded to tell me that I needed to let my eyebrows fill in and let her take over shaping them as she felt they were over-plucked. Some might have been offended by this remark but I appreciated her honesty, after all she was the expert in that department.

My next several visits to Yudit consisted of laser hair removal, eyebrow trimming and an ongoing education surrounding makeup and skincare.

Throughout my eyebrow rehabilitation and laser treatments, I was converted to using Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup which allows your skin to breathe and is the best makeup for photographs and worn by many celebs. My skincare regime was also transformed by Yudit to exclusively GM Collins Skincare products which make you feel like you have had a facial every time you wash your face.

Besides keeping me up to date on the latest trends in makeup and skincare I got to know Yudit and many of the staff at the Urban Body Clinic. My boyfriend also became a client of laser hair removal and brow maintenance because having a great esthetician is not only a "woman thing."

My boyfriend proposed to me October 13, 2007. The focus of my appointments at Urban Body Clinic shifted to wedding and honeymoon preparations. First we would finish all laser hair removal, then we would deal with my skin and body. Now I am blessed to never had major skin problems but like many things in life there is always room for improvement.

Yudit put me on a 14 month schedule (that was the length of our engagement) of microdermabrasion, and facials. Although if asked he would never admit it but my fiance was also put on a schedule too. If you have never had microdermabrasion it is like gently having your face sandblasted, not particularly relaxing but you leave with the silkiest skin of your life. If you follow a treatment with a facial (my favorite being the Vitamin C Facial) your epidermis is open to absorb all that goodness and your skin will glow for weeks.

Eyebrows, facials and microdermabrasion aside, the Urban Body Clinic also offers many body contouring services. With an upcoming wedding followed by a honeymoon in Hawaii, I was quickly booked to deal with the areas of my body that were not responding to bootcamp and a strict diet.

I did a series of mesotherapy, accent treatments and vibration fitness on the ProEllixe machine. Mesotherapy is a series of injections that break down fat and cellulite. I can testify - they work but it hurts a lot. I recall the area swelling up and bruising and the only way to describe the pain was a comparison to being stung by several bees.

Accent on the other hand is like a hot massage wand which uses radiofrequency to heat the cottage cheese like tissue below the skin which causes new collagen to be produced creating a tighter and toned look in the problem areas. This too works wonders. Both treatments are accompanied by 10 minute sessions on the ProEllixe machine which promotes lymphatic drainage and increased circulation through vibration. When all was said and done I was two sizes smaller and ready to rock my wedding dress and then my bikini in Hawaii.

In addition to all of the help from Yudit and the Urban Body Clinic, pre-wedding, Yudit with her husband attended our wedding and was kind enough to bring her makeup kit filled with Jane Iredale. She touched up myself and my two bridesmaids before the first dance at our reception.

Having a great Esthetician can truly change your life as it changes your look. A great Esthetician can get you through life's milestones and even just your day-to-day. I will save the pregnancy and post-pregnancy processes for another article as I am knee deep in them right now.

If you live elsewhere, shop around until you find somebody who is right for you and has a clinic that offers the services and cleanliness that meets your needs. Many things in the beauty industry go unregulated (at least here in Canada) so be proactive in thoroughly checking out the place and asking questions. Take the time, spend the money and enjoy. A relationship with a great Esthetician will keep you young for many years to come.
